India is a country which is known for its different types of festivals that are celebrated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. From Diwali to Holi to Raksha Bandhan, people across India are always busy celebrating one festival after the other. Janmashtami, which is also known as ‘Krishna Janmashtami’ or ‘Gokulashtami’, is one such festival that is celebrated with a lot of pomp and fervour throughout India.

In the mid of the lockdown, and free from all the hectic schedule of office- I thought of making Krishna Janmashtami 2020 Date Time Shubh Muhurat along with celebration apt this time.

As the name suggests, Krishna Janmashtami is observed to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna – the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Celebrated on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravana, Krishna Janmashtami will be observed on August 11 this year.
According to the Hindu calendar, this will be the 5247th birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.
The Nishita Pujan timings will begin from 12.05 am and will continue till 12.48 am on August 12.
The idols of Lord Krishna are cleaned with
Milk
Ghee
Curd
and decorate with new clothes and ornaments.
The idol is then placed in a cradle to symbolise the birth of the lord.
In Maharashtra, the festival is celebrated by organising Dahi Handi competitions that conclude with prize distribution ceremonies, while in Gujarat's Dwarka devotees decorate household temples, sing devotional songs and prepare sweetmeats for the God.
In Tamil Nadu, people observe fast and decorate the floor with beautiful patterns made of rice batter called kolams. Young boys in Andhra Pradesh dress up as Krishna and devotees chant mantras and sing devotional songs as well.
What to do and what not to do on Janmashtami day?
Worship time
On the day of Janmashtami, many people worship during the morning or evening. But keep in mind that Lord Krishna was born at midnight, so worshiping at that time is considered beneficial.
Clean utensils
Clean utensils should be used in the worship of Lord Krishna. Keep in mind that these utensils should not be used for any non-vegetarian food.
Peacock feather
Lord Krishna loves peacock feathers. During the worship, do not forget to put peacock feathers to the Lord. Applying peacock feathers during the Lord's decoration enhances the beauty of the Krishna statue.
Silver flute
Lord Krishna loves to play the flute, so during the puja one must keep a silver flute in his aarti. If silver flute is not available, then bamboo flute can also be offered during worship. After the puja, a silver flute should be kept in the purse. It remains the blessing of money grain.
Rakhi
Lord Krishna loved his sister Subhadra very much, so to please Lord Krishna, Rakhi must be kept in the aarti at the time of worship. On Janmashtami, do not forget to tie Rakhi to Kanha along with her elder brother Balaram. By doing this, the grace of Lord Krishna remains.
Makhan
Kanha is loved by Makhan, it is believed that the night Kanha was born, the gopis of Nanda village saw in their dream that Kanha is asking for Makhan. Nandlal loved Makhan so much that he used to steal and eat Makhan from the gopis of his childhood. Therefore, Lord Kanha must offer mishri along with Makhan during worship.
There are a few things, that are prohibited for everybody on a Janmashtami.
- Plucking Tulsi Leaves. On the day of Janmashtami, one should not pluck Tulsi leaves.
- Disrespecting The Poor.
- Cutting Trees.
- Consuming Non-vegetarian Food.
- Physical Relations.
- Disrespecting A Cow.
