Those who bring home an idol of Ganpati Bappa on Ganesh Chaturthi, perform the Visarjan rituals on the auspicious day of Anant Chaturdashi. Lord Ganesha returns to his heavenly abode on this day after spending about ten days with his devotees at their homes. The Visarjan on Ananta Chaturdashi suggests that the tradition of arrival (on Chaturthi) and the departure of Lord Ganesha shall continue forever.
The arrival of Lord Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturthi makes devotees beam with joy, but his visarjan or farewell after the puja leaves them teary-eyed.
Now let's have a look at Ganesh Visarjan Vidhi Step by Step!
- On the day of Visarjan, the entire family must gather to chant the holy mantras and perform a few rituals. It includes the offering of the Dhoop, Deep, Pushpa, Gandha and Naivedya. Offer Bappa's favourite Modaks and Ladoos.
- Then perform aarti before Bappa begins his return journey.
- Thank Bappa for visiting your home and also seek forgiveness for any mistake that you may have committed.
- Then slightly and gently move Bappa, to mark the beginning of his returning journey.
- Then one must offer curd and sugar to Bappa for his blissful journey.
- After reaching the Visarjan spot, one must perform the aarti once again, and then gently immerse him in the water.
